Oeam Folk Village Oeam Folk Village

Located in the valley of Seolhwa mountain, Asan’s Oeam Village was since the early Joseon Kingdom home to Siheung Station where the travelers fed their horses.

After visiting the lower part of the village which is organized as an open-air Folk Museum, head to the upper side to discover the real village. Currently, there are 69 households residing in the town, and 38 of them are engaged in farming. The resident population is 192 people in total. Most of the houses are thatch-roofed but you’ll also find in the village several tile-roofed noblemen’s houses.

What makes this village distinctive is an artificial waterway. The village draws water from the upper valley in the village, creating an eco-friendly environment and ecological landscape. The water has been used for daily life and firefighting, and mountain streams and ponds made using the water elaborate the gardens of houses.

Take a walk along the stone walls, try to feel the traditional atmosphere, enjoy the beautiful gardens with thick trees blending with ponds and stones and run in the middle of the rice fields surrounding the village.

The atmosphere is absolutely unique and worth definitely the one hour and a half of drive from Seoul.
