Beautiful and Relaxing Botanical Garden, a little-known secret for a perfect family day out of Seoul among blooming flowers
70 kilometers north of Seoul close to the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) and almost at the border with North Korea in the middle of the mountains and rice fields is the Herb Village.
This beautiful oasis with Chrysanthemums and Angelonias blooming right now is a perfect place for relaxation for all the family. Colorful flowerpots, wooden benches and original statues decorate the whole space of the garden.
When we visited in autumn the Herb Village was celebrating one of the seasonal flower festivals . On this occasion, the main field of the garden was all covered by blooming Angelonias.
Those amazing and photogenic rows of purple flowers reminded us of lavender fields in Provence. You can just walk down the hill towards the Imjigang River, listen to the quiet background music and feel this zen and relaxing atmosphere.
If you need a refreshment, there are two restaurants inside the garden – a Korean restaurant offering breathtaking views of the river and the mountains and Farmer’s table – an italian restaurant connected to the green house and offering a very good choice of oven-baked pizza and pasta.
If you want to stay overnight, there is a beautiful guest house adjacent to the garden called Club Flora.
