Perfect Seoul getaway to the sea – Daebudo Island

The weather is getting warmer and sunny days are back.  Perfect time for a one day trip to the sea from Seoul downtown 😉

Daebudo Island, Ansan

Daebudo Island is a large island next to Ansan ( south of Incheon).  Even if it is an island you don’t need to take a ferry as it is connected to the mainland by the Sihwa Embankment. From Seoul it will take you approximately 1 hour and a half to go there.

Daebudo is famous for its grapes (we couldn’t taste them as it was not the season yet), its clams and seafood. As you can imagine, clam digging is a popular family activity for many visitors, and tools such as buckets and shovels/small rakes are easily rented there.

If you are more in a walking mood we have a prefect and easy walk to recommend you 😉 Haesolgil is a walking trail running all around the Daebudo Island.  You can check the detailed map on this web (Korean only). We just tried a very short part of it – the course n. 1 which is probably the most famous and most popular. It covers the very northern part of the island and connects to the small island on the north by a  wooden bridge.
If you are walking with little kids or if you have a stroller, you can just make it on the easy route on the western part of this little peninsula.

After the walk, you may stop at one of the restaurants by the sea and have some sannakji  (live squid), sashimi and the local speciality bajirak kalguksu (noodle with short-necked clams).

Daebudo is definitely a prefect one day trip from Seoul for some fresh air and yummy food 😉 Enjoy!

How to get there:

Oido Station (Seoul Subway Line 4), Exit 2.
Cross the road outside the station, and take Bus 790 to Bukdong 3-way Intersection (북동3거리정류장).
