Samseongsan hiking

Samseongsan is located approximately 30km South-West of Seoul Station near Gwanaksan mountain. We have visited several times at different seasons and this is clearly at the top of our “favourite hiking” destinations list. Best of all, this is one of the closest options from the urban area. So close, yet so naturally beautiful!

There are many possible hiking routes. We tested one starting from the entrance of the Seoul University Arboretum. From the public parking, the trail starts on the left of the arboretum. It is well marked and prepared, however the ascent uphill can be a bit physical at times. We recommend it with kids from 6-7 year-old and above. The path takes you through pine-trees areas, with fantastic views at the nearby Gwanaksan mountain and its hillside temple(s). In Spring, many trees were in full blossom in the valleys below us.

We just made a hike to the first hilltop (360m high) and came back towards the parking area. However it is also possible to continue your way until connecting with the back entry of the arboretum. The access shall be allowed to transit back to your starting point.

You may find many cafes, shops and restaurants in the village along the Anyang valley where is the start of hike.

How to get there:
